In August 2024, I began a major SEO project with DMB Plumbing & Heating Inc, a trusted local plumbing and heating company based in Bridgewater, Massachusetts. The goal from day one was to dominate high-value emergency plumbing near me and emergency heating searches; the types of searches people make when they’re in immediate need of help. These are some of the most competitive keywords in the home services industry, with Google Ads often charging around $30 per click. Instead of paying for ads, we set out to earn those clicks organically through strategic SEO, content creation, backlink campaigns, press releases, guest posts, geotagged images, and consistent optimization.

Over the next fourteen months, the results spoke for themselves. The website accumulated 1,770 organic clicks – worth over $53,100 in potential PPC ad spend! Without paying for a single ad. In addition, the site received over 1.39 million total impressions on Google Search Console (see image above), a massive boost in visibility and brand awareness. That means more than a million people searching for plumbing or heating services saw DMB’s brand in their Google results. Each impression helps build recognition and trust, which directly translates into higher call volumes and long-term business growth!

The project wasn’t just about traffic, it was about turning visibility into leads and leads into paying customers. Within the first year, DMB Plumbing & Heating gained over 500 new customers from Google alone! This number is especially impressive in the plumbing industry, where customers tend to become repeat clients for years to come. Those customers now rely on DMB for burst pipe repairs, water heater replacements, boiler installations, toilet replacements, and mini-split installations. The foundation we built through SEO continues to pay off every single day, and it’s a perfect example of how long-term organic growth can outperform short-term paid advertising.

Targeting High-Value Searches That Convert

When building out the SEO strategy, my main focus was to capture intent-driven searches – keywords that indicate urgency and high buyer intent. These include searches like “emergency plumbing,” “emergency plumber near me,” and “emergency heating repair.” People who search these terms aren’t browsing, they’re ready to book right now! That’s exactly the kind of traffic that turns into paying jobs.

By optimizing title tags, meta descriptions, headers, and on-page copy around these specific high-intent searches, we made sure DMB Plumbing & Heating appeared where it mattered most, right when homeowners needed help. The results were staggering. “Emergency plumbing” generated 32,217 impressions (see images above), “emergency plumber” brought in 28,624 impressions, and “emergency plumber near me” hit 23,845 impressions. The top heating keyword, “emergency heating repair near me,” drove another 16,294 impressions. This level of exposure in emergency-related searches meant DMB wasn’t just showing up in search results, it was becoming the go-to company for homeowners across Plymouth and Bristol County!

To support this growth, we also built a content structure focused on individual service pages. The Emergency Plumbing page alone earned 424,723 impressions (see image below), while the Emergency Heating page brought in 308,315 impressions. These pages didn’t just attract clicks; they converted visitors into calls because the copy was crafted to address real customer pain points. Each page explained the service clearly, reinforced trust with professionalism, and featured strong calls to action. With winter approaching, we’ve now shifted focus toward heating services, preparing for another major boost in visibility and conversions during the colder months.

SEO Analytics, Customer Behavior, and Performance Growth

Every SEO campaign should be backed by real data, and this one was no exception. Over fourteen months, we closely tracked the performance through Google Search Console, paying attention to search behavior, devices, and ranking trends. Out of the 1.39 million impressions, 637,224 came from mobile, while 751,967 came from desktop searches (see image below). This breakdown reveals something important about DMB’s audience. The majority of their customers are homeowners, often older, established residents who tend to search from a desktop computer rather than a mobile device. Understanding this shaped our content and design decisions, ensuring the website looked great and functioned smoothly on both devices.

When we started the campaign, the average position in Google search results was 45, far from ideal! It meant DMB wasn’t being found by anyone searching for their core services. After months of optimization, content writing, backlink campaigns, and technical improvements, their average position improved to 30.9, with the most recent data showing an average of around position 15 (see image below). That’s a major leap in visibility, and as the rankings continue to rise, their calls and leads grow with it.

This campaign wasn’t luck, it was strategy. We published over 30,000 words of SEO-optimized content, half written by me and half assisted by AI. Each page had a clear purpose: to rank, to educate, and to convert. Combined with targeted press releases, backlink-building campaigns, and local SEO, we built an ecosystem of trust around DMB’s brand.
